With two site visits to FORTH and iit, University of Trento partners were able to gather a clear understanding of the technical elements entailed in MAGICIAN solutions, the perception system on the one hand, and the grinding/reworking solution on the other hand.
The visit to FORTH was dedicated to a closer look at the perception system which will be integrated in the robotic solutions developed in the project. On 1st and 2nd July, Daniele Fontanelli, Luigi Palopoli and Matteo Dalle Vedove from University of Trento visited FORTH partners in Heraklion, Crete.
The aim was to discuss the MAGICIAN perception systems and joint research between FORTH and University of Trento. FORTH partners Antonis Argyros, Ammar Qammaz and Iason Oikonomidis used the opportunity for a live demonstration of the MAGICIAN perception solutions for the visitors. In addition, Daniele Fontanelli and Luigi Palopoli gave two seminars.
The visit to FORTH was followed by a visit to iit on 3rd and 4th July and likewise dedicated to deeper technical discussions on the MAGICIAN solution executing grinding and reworking tasks, as well as further research in the frame of the project. A preliminary version of the grinding solution was then presented to the visiting partners.
Both site visits deepened the understanding of how the perception system and the reworking system respectively will be integrated with the robotic solutions, and also supported laying out the next development and research steps in the project.
First research results on the perception systems and human-robot interfaces will be published here soon.
